CPA Exam

The Uniform CPA Examination (CPA Exam) is a professional licensing examination used by all state boards of accountancy to ensure only qualified individuals become licensed as U.S. Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). All CPA candidates must pass the CPA Exam.

The CPA Exam consists of 3 core sections and 1 discipline section. Each candidate must pass all 3 core sections and their choice of 1 of the 3 discipline sections.

  • Business Analysis and Reporting (BAR)
  • Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR)
  • Information Systems and Control (ISC)
  • Taxation and Regulation (REG)
  • Tax Compliance and Planning (TCP)

 Steps to Take the CPA Exam

  1. Meet the Education Requirements.
  2. Review the Candidate Guide – the official CPA Exam handbook published by the CPA Exam partners (AICPA, NASBA, and Prometric).
  3. Apply to take the CPA Exam. – The Board contracts with CPA Exam Services (CPAES) for application processing for Washington's CPA Exam applicants.
